iPads… paddles…  a fleet… a brain fitness program!       A shredder…a sink… a chainsaw…chiropractic treatment for a horse !        

We asked island non-profits about their current needs and this is their response (listed alphabetically by organization).

ACE-MV hopes to find FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced with tech support ($800) in their stocking to help sort students, classes, faculty, volunteers, donors etc. and scholarships ($250 each) for students taking Medical Training Health certificate and Cape Cod Community College courses.

With three staged readings of new works already slated for next season, and rewrites happening on an hourly basis, ArtFarm is wishing for a dependable copy machine. New or old, as long as it works!

CONNECT to End Violence (MV Community Services) wishes for $860 for educational videos and books for training volunteers, youth & public officials on violence prevention and healthy relationships so they can serve our community better. 

The Drum Workshop wishes for four tires, a tune-up and new brakes; maintenance for the eight year old van their programs depend on every day. With $3,000 and some TLC they hope to make it last another eight years. 

The "Read to My Child Program" at The Dukes County Jail sends about 50 children videos of their Dad reading bedtime stories to them, along with a copy of the storybook, to help keep  families connected. They wish for money for books.

Early Childhood Programs (MV Community Services) would like to supplement its breakfast, snack and lunch menus with more locally grown fresh food for enrolled children ($5,000). 

The FARM Institute hopes to find a walk-in freezer (around $5,000) in their stocking. It’s part of their plan to increase production and sale of locally grown beef, lamb, pork and chicken to the community in support of their farm-based education programs.

Featherstone Center for the Arts wishes for a jewelry kiln ($900) to increase its class offerings in this popular and growing medium, especially precious metal clay jewelry. The kiln would fire enamels and glass as well as silver and metal clay items.

Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary wishes to not be up a creek without a paddle and seeks 5 kayak paddles ($85 each) for their student program, and a flip camera ($200) to record the fun! They also hope for an automated external defibrillator ($2000) so in an emergency they can save a life at their remote site. 

Island Food Pantry wishes for the purchase and installation of a new, non-rusty sink in the food pantry bathroom

Many Island nonprofits aren’t capable of accepting donations of securities but you can still contribute stock by making a donor directed gift through the Donors Collaborative. We’ll sell the securities immediately upon receipt and pass on 100% of the proceeds to the organization of your choice.

The Island Employment Services Program (MV Community Services) would like $2,000 (or a volunteer) to provide basic (Excel/ QuickBooks) computer training to disabled consumers trying to build their skills to enter the MV job market.

Island Community Chorus wishes for an acoustic music shell for the Performing Arts Center so they can perform there. The acoustics at this important venue do not work well for a chorus.

Island Counseling Center (MV Community Services) wishes for $1000 to purchase three HP LaserJet P2055DN printers to operate more efficiently. Currently, 27 clinical staff members share one printer.

Island Housing Trust wishes to replace a five-year old Mac laptop ($2000); purchase a database system to manage homeownership and project workflow ($3500); and volunteers to provide logo and web design, communications planning, data input and foundation research and grant writing. 

The Marine and Paleobiological Research Institute brings free lectures about marine science and fossils to our island libraries, classrooms, and other venues. The wished for “infocus” projector bulb ($249) will keep the screen from going blank.

The Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club wishes for a new 15 passenger van to transport kids on fieldtrips.

The Martha's Vineyard Film Festival wishes for a state of the art HD Projector ($10,000) so they can keep pace with technology and screen films in the highest resolution possible.

Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society hopes for a patron to sponsor a summer concert. A full sponsorship of $10,000 funds two performances (Edgartown and Chilmark) and is wonderful way to celebrate and share glorious music with friends.

Martha's Vineyard Helping Homeless Animals needs volunteers to help with the cat shelter, administration and grant writing, and funding for the low cost spay/neuter program they offer to help pet owners be responsible during tough times

The Martha's Vineyard Public Schools English Language Learners Program hopes for iPads, which provide access to fabulous literacy programs, for students eagerly learning English as a second language while also learning the rest of the curriculum.

The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Institute is grooming a new generation of leaders and wishes for two scholarships at $1,500 each to attend their Youth Summit for Sustainable Development, a week-long intensive leadership training program for fifty youth delegates (ages 15-22).

The MV Film Society and MV International Film Festival wishes for $1000 to help fund an Environmental Sustainability film and speaker series in collaboration with VCS, and $2500 towards a new HDMI-DVI projector for screening films in HD/Blu-ray

Media Voices For Children wishes for  $3,800 to replace a 6 year old MAC that runs their operation.

The Nature Conservancy’s Hoft Farm has a library of VHS conservation films. They need a new VCR to play them or a VCR/DVD recorder to convert them to DVD. They also want some environmentally friendly paint and a dishwasher.

Phyllis Vecchia Creative Drama would like $3000 to continue offering a Women in History program to 6th-8th graders.  The funds would be used for additional R&D and  for teaching the program at four other Island Schools or community centers.   

Polly Hill Arboretum wishes for an Arborist’s chainsaw for in-tree pruning, essential to maintaining healthy and structurally sound trees in their living collection ($400).

Rising Tide Therapeutic Equestrian Center would love a gift certificate to SBS for barn maintenance supplies.  Their four therapy horses would greatly appreciate a chiropractic/massage session  ($100 per session) and the students would appreciate a new "comfy" saddle for Spice ($500).

Sail MV is hoping to find six 420 sailboats under the tree to replace their aging fleet. These boats are used by the Summer Sailing Camp, the fall Jr. High program and the High School sailing team. Each boat with sails and rigs costs $8,500.

Sense of Wonder Creations number one wish list item is donations to the scholarship fund so island young people can attend their summer camp ($250 a week) or arts classes ($100 a month).

The Vineyard Haven Public Library would like $6,000 for a digital microfilm/fiche reader to allow patrons to save historical or genealogical documents to a computer.

Vineyard Nursing Association needs an industrial shredder for destruction of personal and medical information ($800).  They also wish for support for their capital campaign to purchase their headquarters in Vineyard Haven.

Vineyard Village at Home helps older Island residents continue living independently in their own homes. They are wishing for people to sponsor a deserving individual ($475) or couple ($600) with a year's membership. They also need $500 to promote scholarships, membership, and volunteer opportunities.

Vineyard Voice would love two small "Pico Video Projectors" ($400 each) to show artists work, video stories and youth productions in public

Windemere wishes for a good sound system for the dining rooms, garden and rec room ($3000), an Insight Brain Fitness Training Program ($495) and a the sorely needed replacement of their wheelchair lift van to take residents to appointments and on outings ($13,000).
