Mission:

Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard is a free, community supported program whose mission is to meet the unique physical, emotional and spiritual needs of all who are facing advanced illness and loss, and to give them hope, comfort, and compassion.

Vision:

Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard will be a free community supported resource to which people turn for:

  • Help at the time of diagnosis of serious illness for the individual and family to understand their medical options and to ease their physical and emotional pain,
  • Support for the best quality of life and preparation for a peaceful end,
  •  Bereavement care & counseling for those suffering advanced illness and loss,
  • Coordination and collaboration with island and off-island medical and social organizations to provide quality care to the community, and
  • Volunteers trained to support families and patients.

 Hospice will:

  • Reach out to people about its Mission and Vision so that they realize when and how Hospice can be of help.
  • Grow its endowment to assure the program’s sustainability.

Major Programs:

Hospice offers volunteer training for community members interested in offering respite and friendship to our patients and their families.

We host a "Living with Grief"   teleconference with the Hospice Foundation of America every Spring at the high school and the entire community is welcomed.

Community workshops are offered annually to address issues related to end of life, advance directives and grief and loss.
