Mission:

The Island Housing Trust is a community based non-profit
whose mission is the creation and stewardship of permanently affordable housing solutions, both ownership and rental,  for working island families and individuals living on Martha's Vineyard.

Major Programs:
LAND STEWARD – the Island Housing Trust’s nationally recognized ground lease model helps ensure homeowners’ success and the
home’s permanent affordability through on-going support and stewardship services. This hands-on approach keeps foreclosure rates far lower than neighboring market-rate houses, and ensures that the community’s initial investment is retained and passed along from one homeowner to the next.

NON-PROFIT DEVELOPER – the Trust provides a valuable service to the Martha's Vineyard community by building and renovating green affordable homes, both ownership and rental, efficiently and cost effectively.

HOUSING SPECIALIST - the Island Housing Trust offers unique professional services to towns and housing organizations.

Other Information:
The Island Housing Trust's business plan is to achieve operational self-sufficiency over the next five-years by building and diversifying our revenue sources from ground lease fees as we purchase and sell more homes; project fee for service; foundations and state grants;
and our supporting members. Your financial support is an essential part of this plan that will allow us to create more homeownership and rental opportunities for working island families and individuals locked-out of the Vineyard’s housing market.

The Island Housing Trust has partnered with the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank in joint land purchases that have resulted in land conservation and affordable housing.

Discounted or bargain property sales to the Island Housing Trust can provide important tax benefits to property owners who are faced with significant estate or capital gains taxes.
