Mission:

Establish and maintain a place for the exhibition and sale of works of art created by artists living and working on Martha's Vineyard; to teach and encourage the teaching of art; to perform, encourage, and promote artistic activities and to do any and all things necessary or incidental thereto and permissable under the provisions of chapter 180 of the general laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Major Programs:

The Old Sculpin Gallery & Studio School of the Marth'a Vineyard Art Association is an historic landmark on the Edgartown waterfront. For over 50 years it has served as an art school, exhibition space and repository for a permanent collection of art made on the Vineyard from 1879 to the present.

This permanent collection includes works by the island's most accomplished artist's : Francis Chapin, Vaclav Vytlacil, Lois Maillou Jones, Ruth Appledorn Meade, Fred Messersmith, Mary Coles, Julius Delbos and Frank Wright.

The oldest continuing gallery & studio school on the island, the MVAA offers excellence in art education for children, teens & adults as well as an opportunity for emerging and established artists to exhibit and interact with other artists in the greater island community. There is also an Artist-in-Residence program and studio space available to local artists.
