Since 1977, Island Elderly Housing, Inc. (IEH) has provided quality, affordable housing for very low and low income elderly and disabled on Martha's Vineyard through federal funding assistance. IEH is the largest affordable housing provider in Dukes County and one of the largest on the Cape and Islands. Today, IEH manages 165 apartments in Oak Bluffs and Tisbury and works with approximately 170 residents. All residents live independently.

.

Though housing for the elderly and disabled is essential to sustaining a community's diversity and inter-generational support to families, there is more to life than just housing. For the last few years, IEH has provided two part-time programs for residents so that they can continue to live full and independent lives:

  • Community Meals are offered three times per week in Oak Bluffs and Tisbury.
  • The Blueberry Van provides trips to the grocery, the doctor, the pharmacy four days a week to ensure that basic living needs are met.

Both these programs provide the supportive services that expand the opportunities for our residents and enhance the support for their independent living.
