Founded: 1996

Mission:

Our mission is to build simple, decent housing for families in the lowest qualifying income range. Our homes are built with volunteer labor, donated materials and charitable donations. We believe that addressing the lack of affordable housing - one house at a time - will keep our Island a healthy, vital community.

Major Programs:

Habitat for Humanity of Martha's Vineyard (HFHMV) is a non-profit community housing developer and 0% mortgage lender serving income
qualified, first-time home buyer families and individuals earning 80% or
less of the Area median Income in Dukes County. HFHMV has built about one house per year since 2002 using our unique development model which
integrates volunteer labor, partner family "sweat equity" and in-kind
donations. HFHMV's energy efficient design and use of re-purposed materials makes for an environmentally responsible build today while reducing energy costs tomorrow. HFHMV's community partnership allows us to save 50%- 70% of traditional construction costs which translates into a bigger bang for the donated buck.
