American Red Cross, Cape and Islands Chapter

Founded 1915

The Cape Cod and Islands chapter of the American Red Cross provides emergency response service and health and safety training to the residents of Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. The Red Cross is a critical part of emergency response network on Cape Cod and the Islands. Our volunteers respond, teach, and care for our community when the need is greatest seven days a week, 24 hours a day. We are expected to be ready at all times.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha's Vineyard
Founded 1974
The mission of BBBS of MV is to help children in our program cope with the special problems they face growing up in signle parent homes.  Our primary goal is to match children (aged six through teens) to dedicated & caring adult voluteers who will provide the friendship & one-on-one mentoring needed by the children in their childhood and adolescent years.

Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, Inc.
Founded 1972
Elder Services is dedicated to promoting the welfare, enhancing the quality of life, and maintaining the dignity of elders in Barnstable, Dukes (except Gosnold) and Nantucket counties.  The organization works through communities and their citizens to identify and respond to the needs, problems and concerns of elders and their families.  Elder Services is the federally designated area agency on aging, and state designated service access point of Martha's Vineyard.  Services are provided Islandwide; in order to avoid duplication, services are purchased form local agencies whenever possible.

Island Food Pantry

Founded 1981

The Island Food Pantry provides emegency food needs on Martha's Vineyard. With 50 volunteers and the support of many Vineyard businesses, organizations and individualsis the Island Food Pantry assited 350 families in FY2006. This represents 720 people including at least 190 children. In addition, Granola bars were provided to elementary schools for breakfast supplements.
