Chicken Alley Thrift Shop 

(A program of MV Community Services)

The Thrift Shop is successful because of the contributions of many. Staffed in part by an ‘army’ of volunteers, we are always looking for recruits. The role of the volunteer is to assist with the daily thrift shop operations, which includes receiving donations, sorting, pricing, merchandising and/or other retail support. Current volunteer opportunities are available on-site with flexible schedule options. Purpose is what fuels our work at Chicken Alley Thrift Shop. Come and join our team!

Martha's Vineyard Nonprofit Collaborative (MVNC)

MVNC is looking for a volunteer or intern to help with updating our database, research, events and/or social media. 1-3 hours a week. Stipend provided.

The Yard 

The Yard is looking for volunteers to help work performances. Most performances will take place at That Yard's campus in Chilmark. There will be a couple of performances happening at the MVPAC and Ice Arena. Volunteers will help with roles, as needed. This could include ticket scanning, helping with parking, handing out programs, and other general needs. From start to finish shows will take 2.5-3.5 hours. (This includes prep before hand, performance running time, and drive time.) Volunteers get a free ticket to the performance they are working!

Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands

Description: Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed to deliver meals to homebound seniors Monday-Friday. Volunteers will usually deliver one day weekly, and will deliver to a specific area on the Island. The total commitment is about two hours, between 10 and noon, and mileage reimbursement is available. Meals are picked up at Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands M.V. office, located in the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. A CORI check is required. Year-round, seasonal, and substitute drivers are welcome.

Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center 

Description: Make new friends!  Help others!  Be with horses!  Have fun! Be part of a team! Be outside!

Misty runs programming year-round and we are in need of volunteers.  Based on your interests, we have something for everyone! Be a unicorn or assist with activities at an event, participate in lessons with the horses and students as a horse handler or a side walker. Have fun doing barn tasks such as, filling hay nets, sweeping, and more. There is always a project or task to be done! We will work with your schedule! No prior experience needed for most roles! Island Grown Initiative

Island Grown SchoolsIsland Grown Schools seeks volunteer help in gardens and classrooms to teach the next generation of Island students about where their food comes from. Volunteer opportunities involve working with our staff as they deliver garden lessons and facilitate after school cooking and gardening clubs, and basic garden maintenance. 

Island Food Pantry: Island Food Pantry is always looking for volunteers to help with various shifts throughout the week: Monday through Saturday.  Volunteer opportunities involve packing, helping with service, delivering groceries, loading and unloading food from trucks, stocking shelves and much more. 
IGI Gleaning: Help us harvest fresh local produce on Island farms for those in need. We provide tools, instruction and an experienced Field Captain. Most gleans last about two hours. Volunteers may keep a share of the harvest for themselves. This is a great way to meet new people and become engaged in helping the Island community. 

IGI Food ProcessingWork as a team in commercial kitchens to wash, chop, freeze and pickle local produce. A ServeSafe manager leads processing events. We share this food with the Councils on Aging, Wampanoag Women’s Center, MV Hospital, Island Food Pantry, MV Community Services and other organizations helping Islanders in need.

Island Grown Initiative

Greenhouse and Farm Infrastructure Assistant- The IGI Greenhouse and Farm Infrastructure Assistant is a critical member of the IGI team, helping maintain both our farm grounds and our greenhouse. Infrastructure work will include assisting our Farm Director with small-scale construction and maintenance projects, our on-site composting operation, helping manage our poultry flock, custodial duties, and landscaping.  Greenhouse work will include helping seed, harvest, and clean our hydroponic systems both inside our 30,000 square foot glass greenhouse and in our state of the art Freight Farm, and assisting with keeping the greenhouse clean and orderly.

MV Film Society 

Theatre Operations Coordinator: Reporting to the Executive Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, a non-profit cultural arts organization, the Theatre Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the film center/cinema and coordination of part-time and volunteer staff (when needed) to operate the center efficiently (show management, concessions, maintenance, etc). The Theatre Operations Coordinator must ensure the successful execution of all film and non-film events on time. Availability for late nights, weekends, and some holidays are a must: typical off-season schedule (September to June) is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3-10 pm with occasional 1 pm matinees on weekend. In summer it’s 6-10 pm, 5-6 nights a week. Some deviations to this schedule occur during the year.
