MV Diversity Coalition 

The MV Diversity Coalition is laying the groundwork to eradicate racism. We are currently looking for an individual who is committed to our mission to keep our books and to serve as a volunteer bookkeeper to make payments, donations and to gather information for our accountants who will submit non profit reports, as required. The tasks currently take between two and five hours a month.

Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center 

Description: Join our community of Misty Meadows volunteers - have fun, make friends, love horses!

Misty Meadows runs programming year-round, and we are currently in need of class volunteers for our Winter and Spring sessions. Class participation includes being hands on as a horse leader, offering student support as a side-walker, or instructor support with class and horse prep/clean up.  

We also have year round horse care, events, hospitality, facilities maintenance, admin, and all things barn related - whatever your interests and activity levels, we have a place for you!

Martha’s Vineyard Counselor Recruitment- Have you retired to Martha’s Vineyard but still want important and rewarding work that serves your new community?  Do you like to solve puzzles?  If yes, you might consider becoming a SHINE Counselor.  SHINE stands for Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone.  We help people on Medicare, or are becoming Medicare eligible, to figure out the health and prescription plan options to go with Medicare.  This is true for those turning 65 and for those under 65 who become eligible due to a disability.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Needed! Big Brothers Big Sisters on MV is in need of Big Brothers to serve as mentors for the several boys on the waitlist. Bigs commit to a minimum of one year in the program and meet with their Little (mentee) two-three times a month for a few hours each time. The goal of the program is to provide an additional, positive adult, to help support a child that could benefit from positive 1:1 adult attention.

Writing Through

Writing Through is an international organization with a local footprint. We use creative writing as a tool to help people find their voice and have the confidence to express it. There are many ways to volunteer here on Martha’s Vineyard. Train to be a workshop facilitator and then run our workshops at local partnering organizations. Help us find community organizations to partner with. Work alongside our fundraising and admin team. Your own skills and interests will help decide how you can best help us give voice to the voiceless here in our community. Amount of hours is flexible.

Angels Helping Animals

Angels Helping Animals relies on help from our community to help save lives and find safe and loving homes for dogs in need. Can you help us? We are searching for volunteers to give any time than can to help fulfill the following needs:

Communications Manager: We are looking for help with our Website, social media, and mailing list management.

QuickBooks: Are you an experienced QuickBooks user? We could use your help.

Transport: Our rescues sometimes need to be transported/accompanied from the Island to the mainland and within MA.

Foster: Do you love dogs? You can help a rescued pup on their journey to a loving permanent home. While we are searching for a perfect home we are looking for people willing to take a rescued pup into their home for a few days to a few weeks.

Team member: Join us to help with walking and caring for dogs in our care on MV, events, fundraising, photography, application processing, and filing.

Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society

The Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, founded in 1859, is sustained and strengthened by the generosity and tenacity of our volunteers. We have no shortage of work that needs doing, from handiwork to historical preservation and 4-H leadership to event cleanup, but we are especially in need of volunteers willing to help with logistics (parking, decoration, setup, etc.) for larger events like our Harvest Festival and annual Agricultural Fair. Please reach out if you are interested in being added to our volunteer list—there is space for everyone!

Friends of Vineyard Haven Public Library

Chicken Alley Thrift Shop 

(A program of MV Community Services)

The Thrift Shop is successful because of the contributions of many. Staffed in part by an ‘army’ of volunteers, we are always looking for recruits. The role of the volunteer is to assist with the daily thrift shop operations, which includes receiving donations, sorting, pricing, merchandising and/or other retail support. Current volunteer opportunities are available on-site with flexible schedule options. Purpose is what fuels our work at Chicken Alley Thrift Shop. Come and join our team!

Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands

Description: Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed to deliver meals to homebound seniors Monday-Friday. Volunteers will usually deliver one day weekly, and will deliver to a specific area on the Island. The total commitment is about two hours, between 10 and noon, and mileage reimbursement is available. Meals are picked up at Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands M.V. office, located in the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. A CORI check is required. Year-round, seasonal, and substitute drivers are welcome.

Island Grown Initiative

Island Grown SchoolsIsland Grown Schools seeks volunteer help in gardens and classrooms to teach the next generation of Island students about where their food comes from. Volunteer opportunities involve working with our staff as they deliver garden lessons and facilitate after school cooking and gardening clubs, and basic garden maintenance. 

Island Food Pantry: Island Food Pantry is always looking for volunteers to help with various shifts throughout the week: Monday through Saturday.  Volunteer opportunities involve packing, helping with service, delivering groceries, loading and unloading food from trucks, stocking shelves and much more. 
IGI Gleaning: Help us harvest fresh local produce on Island farms for those in need. We provide tools, instruction and an experienced Field Captain. Most gleans last about two hours. Volunteers may keep a share of the harvest for themselves. This is a great way to meet new people and become engaged in helping the Island community. 

IGI Food ProcessingWork as a team in commercial kitchens to wash, chop, freeze and pickle local produce. A ServeSafe manager leads processing events. We share this food with the Councils on Aging, Wampanoag Women’s Center, MV Hospital, Island Food Pantry, MV Community Services and other organizations helping Islanders in need.

Summer Camp Counselor - Do you love working with engaging children in a collaborative setting? Do you want nights and weekends off and love the charm of a seaside community? On the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard, Vineyard Montessori School is the largest provider of early childhood care. Our 8-week summer program is creative and dynamic with age appropriate activities, giving every camper a memorable summer experience. This position offers a very competitive salary of $18-$25/hour. The ideal summer camp counselor has previous experience in a camp or school setting and is enthusiastic about working with children. Lagoon Pond Association

Summer Intern- This year we are hiring 2 Interns, one to work with the Tisbury Shellfish and one to work with the Oak Bluffs Shellfish Department. This intern will assist in the day-to-day duties of the specific towns department, including, but not limited to, bay scallop, quahog and soft shell clam propagation and stock enhancement. Other responsibilities will include assisting with phytoplankton sampling and identification as well as predator control in Lagoon Pond. Experience on the water and with boat operation is a plus, however, training for boat operation and other necessary equipment will be provided.  The start date is mid-late June and ending mid-late August.

    Chilmark Community Center

    Part-time Administrator - The Chilmark Community Center is looking for a year-round, part time Administrator with responsibility for program coordination and communication in the offseason as well as gearing up for the summer season ahead. During the summer season (July and August), the Administrator will be on site in the mornings managing the administrative aspects of the camp’s operations.     Aquinnah Public Library 

    Library Associate - The Aquinnah Public Library seeks a creative, organized, detail-oriented individual with a commitment to providing excellent customer service. This position has a strong focus on programming and children’s services. High School diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. Additional broad specialized training equal to one to two years of college acceptable. Previous library experience is highly desirable. Computer and database management skills are a must. Year-round, 20.5 hour benefited position requires Saturdays and evenings. $22.40 per hour.

    MV Film Society 

    Theatre Operations Coordinator: Reporting to the Executive Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, a non-profit cultural arts organization, the Theatre Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the film center/cinema and coordination of part-time and volunteer staff (when needed) to operate the center efficiently (show management, concessions, maintenance, etc). The Theatre Operations Coordinator must ensure the successful execution of all film and non-film events on time. Availability for late nights, weekends, and some holidays are a must: typical off-season schedule (September to June) is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3-10 pm with occasional 1 pm matinees on weekend. In summer it’s 6-10 pm, 5-6 nights a week. Some deviations to this schedule occur during the year.

    African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard

    Tour Leader/Driver- We are the builders of the African American Heritage Trail on Martha’s Vineyard and we are looking for a tour leader/driver to work with our dynamic team during the busy summer season.     Finance Assistant - The Finance Assistant will perform clerical, bookkeeping, and accounting assignments including assisting in the preparation of accounting statements and financial reports. Direct responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general inquires, and filing. In addition, they may perform as back-up to payroll and human resource processing tasks.
